Prototyping a Custom Portal From My Custom Dimension - Talon's Oasis - Ep 145
28There's no accepted way of moving between dimensions, so we're gonna try coming up with our own way to teleport to my custom dimension. Also, gonna have to finally address the oxygen issue in the space dimension, but only after I've died a couple times, lol.
Extra Stuff:
High Flying - I intend to add a way to enter the space dimension by flying above a certain Y level (as suggested by a commenter). And maybe some player-visible advancements so they know how to enter it. The portal placing is to make travel easier after the first visit.
Structure Placement - So structures have hardcoded placement instructions, which is why they were placing all over the place. It was picking random heights between like 250 and 30 roughly like it does when it generates. Makes it a pain to manually place it though. But even when I restricted its height, it still picked random locations around where I ran the command and I couldn't figure out how to stop that. Would be nice if there was a way to override structure placement rules when using the /place command, but oh well.
Motion Blocking - In the end, the secret was to use motion blocking to pick the Y location, which basically picks the highest block without a block above it. That mimicked spreadplayers well. And additionally, I had to specify running from the overworld since the whole function ran in the space dimension even after the player teleported. Maybe spreadplayers updates slow? I would've used /tp, but it was having issues, lol.
Command Block Survival is a gamemode where every command has a self-imposed price. It allows crafting of certain creative mode items (the recipe is part of the price) and adds an entirely new dimension of creativity!
