The PS4 may have some anti piracy DRM after all, in the form of a load time benchmark. A patent filed by Sony has recently been filed that may have leaked this part of the PS4, or it could just be a foundless rumor. The anti piracy method could see the Playstation 4 measuring the install and load time for each individual game, to try and detect whether or not the game has been acquired illegally or if it is a legit copy. If the patent is true, being detected with a pirate PS4 game will result in a user being banned.
Amata gives you all the most recent news, info and details on this possible leak, as well as her opinions, thoughts and speculations on whether or not this method of anti piracy DRM would actually work if implemented into Sony's next gen console.
It is described as "A system and method for detecting piracy of a software product that is distributed on a particular media type is described. Embodiments of the invention track a title load time of a software product that is distributed on a particular media type, and compare it against a benchmark load time for that media type. This comparison is used to detect if the title may have been illegally transferred or pirated to another, unauthorized media type."
