PSP Games on PC ... PPSSPP emulator on HD 620 ... possible? | Intel i3 7100U (HD 620)
Do you remember PSP console from Sony? Would you like to play some old retro games from PSP on your PC/Laptop? Let's check if 7th Gen entry-level Intel CPU can handle it?
I have tested some PSP games on my laptop with Intel i3 7100U and integrated HD 620 using PPSSPP emulator.
I just wanted to see if playing on dated but still popular Intel Kaby Lake is even possible.
All Console Emulators are much more demanding for PC hardware than were for PSP itself.
Screen resolution was set for 2x PSP resolution (native PSP resolution is 480 x 272) so effectively it was 960 x 544 for my laptop. Still far away from HD resolution, but it was max for comfortable and smooth gameplay.
DX9 and FXAA were used to make games look better and perform smoother.
I was using Xbox Controller (the wireless connection created some problems with controller calibration and some moves in games were not as smooth as they should be, unfortunately, I could not connect it with the wire as the Controller's USB C port was damaged).
PPSSPP have tons of settings and playing with them to get the best results for yourself is the best idea.
I expected some games performed better some a bit worse.
My aim was for 24 - 30 fps, which was achieved in most games I played.
Sometimes the audio was crunchy and fps dropped significantly in the game menu but later on everything was fine when I played the game.
CPU and GPU usage wasn't maxed at any point. To push just GPU to 95% I had to increase resolution and some graphics settings but then the game was unplayable at all.
