PSYTH / サイス - Sega Saturn - Intro & 1CC playthrough (hidden mini-game shmup by Konami) [4K60]
Full gameplay longplay, playthrough, walkthrough & trueplay of PSYTH a hidden arcade mini-game shooter included on Tokimeki Memorial ~Forever With You~. That is a truly impressive title packed with transparency effects and for a mini-game hidden inside a dating simulator this is a superb and obscure title in the arcade shooter line up on the Saturn.
Tokimeki Memorial (ときめきメモリアル) actually includes two hidden shmup games on Saturn the other is Twinbee Time Attack which is showcased on the channel here: https://youtu.be/ZCCZawZ6Hsk
Tokimeki Memorial was a PC Engine dating simulator game that Koji Igarashi actually did the scenario for it. Later released on PlayStation, Super Nintendo and Sega Saturn amongst other formats. The game is packed full of little mini-games and pending which version you have, depends on what mini-games you can play, PSYTH is only available on the SEGA Saturn with the other versions having their own different games.
While the PSYTH is only a few minutes long, it's it packed full of gameplay mechanic and hidden bonus to find. The game has two levels and ends with a three formed boss fight. On the face of it you wouldn't expect much, but it is packed full of different enemies and scoring methods in such a short time. There are no power ups, but you can adjust the speed of the ship which in turn changes the angle of your shots and how the orbs move. You can also launch the two orbs that rotate around you to damage opponents, with a lock on attack. You can increase the power of your orbs up to level 5, by having them destroy enemies when rotating around you with higher scores and there is even hidden options to unlock if you finish it and a hidden mini-game within it.
Along the way you can find hidden score monsters and if you free the turtle at the end of the ocean section he turns up again at the boss with various score bonuses or a full screen attack to help out. Certainly enemies like the red orb ship will continue to spawn if you can successfully destroy them, racking up the score. The game even has two endings pending if you defeat the final boss or lose to it. As an extra we included the bad ending at the end of the video. The music, gameplay and 2D visuals are all top notch and this game puts the rather ropey Saturn ports of Castlevania, Vandal Hearts and Suikoden to shame with its 2D transparencies, clearly this was code by Konami's best team.
The game itself is unlocked deep into the second year and requires you have an extremely high computer score and be part of the computer club. In our case it was over 730, when we were given the award show for it and had like two months until the game ends. The computer fair is on the 12th of October every year and supposedly the second one is where you can first unlock it, but we didn't do it until January 1998. Which took a good few hours to reach. Once unlocked it can be accessed from the title screen menu.
