Puss 'n Boots is a textbook example of following a formula and clinging to it for dear life. The game plays solidly, but everything about it is so generic, happy, and inoffensive that it becomes a bit nauseating. Pero the cat jumps around in time, moves from left to right, and kills things. That's about all.
It also takes a willful effort to fail at this one, since the difficulty seems to be dialed down to a level where breathing and occasionally remembering to look at the screen are sufficient for successfully finishing the game. A good confidence booster for someone that wants to play NES and not get thrashed without a Game Genie!
Somehow, I doubt Charles Perrault ever envisioned quite this of his creation!
