604A playthrough of Tengen's 1993 Sega Genesis environmentally-conscious platformer, Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt!
Played through on the normal difficulty.
I have to admit, I remember enjoying this game as a kid. Now that I revisit it though, I can only think that it was because of the awesome two-second theme song at the very beginning of this game, because this game is butt. It tries so hard to be Sonic, or even Bubsy, but it's a trainwreck. The graphics are passable, and the sound would be better if it weren't for the novelty of having Awesome Possum scream out random and badly outdated American colloquialisms, but the ridiculous controls utterly destroy any sense of "playability" that the game might have enjoyed. It's extremely sloppy - the hit detection issues mean that enemy hits can be extremely random, and you'll go flying through far more "solid" objects than you should be able to. Combine that with the enemies' ability to completely swarm you, and you're left with a mess of something that is better remembered with a pitiful glare and a sad chuckle than with an attempt to play it.
The only reason I bothered practicing enough to finish it was because it was one of those games that I refused to let get the better of me. And now I achieved that, I feel somewhat hollow.
Hopefully this video brings someone some entertainment - I certainly suffered enough in bringing it to you ;P
