What’s up guys it’s yo boi evyx and welcome back to the circus.

Recently the world of warcraft creator pyromancer recently hotly asked a bunch of questions related to final fantasy 14 and I wanted to take a look into them and answer them because these are pretty common questions and concerns.

Largely this revolves around controller and playstation 5 console players and final fantasy 14, as someone who has raided with well over 10 controller users in savage over many many years now I’d like to think I have insight into this.

I literally could not find the original clips anywhere because of uh yeah let’s not touch that with a 15 foot pole, so I’m going to use my friend Ginger Prime’s footage and do some reactionception here. If you haven’t heard of him Ginger Prime is amazing, he also has played 14 on controller and has controller guides out there and all around is a badass dad you should get to know!

So to get it out of the way, there are statements made here I don’t agree with.

So question 1 is has a console static ever been world first in an ultimate?

As further questions will clarify, the answer to this question is no. But this question is as the kids would say, problematic.

The larger scope of this question is in regards to the validity of third party tools I believe, and my interpretation is essentially blowing off console players using this strawman argument.

Fundamentally this question is decently loaded because there is an incredibly incredibly teeny tiny fraction of a fraction of the playerbase that engages in ultimate content at any level and that includes even unlocking it.

So out of the players you need specifically raiders, and out of them you need raiders that have best in slot and confidently and capably take down the tier which there are incredibly fewer. Then from those you need the ones that even want to tackle ultimate content which the number of players able and willing to do that is incredibly small.

From there you then go down further because world first progression is blind, meaning no guides no tutorials and you’re left to your own devices. Which even of ultimate raiders makes up an even smaller portion of that.

More than anything the premise of this is completely flawed because you are not a less valid player for not engaging in raiding, let alone ultimate raiding let alone obtaining world first. This is a strawman argument and even with that in mind it’s at face value extremely flimsy.

We have players of all skill levels in 14, and if you pull up statistic data on FFXIV like lucky bancho you can see most people don’t even touch savage raiding. There is nothing wrong with engaging with the game if say you are a housing enthusiast, and that stuff is very incredibly difficult and requires a lot of talent. Sounds weird to anyone outside of housing or unaware of it, but that requires skill and one hell of a lot of time to pull off.

Question 2: Is there such a thing as a console static?

I have played with many many console players over the years. Often times they have actually vastly outperformed their PC player equivalents. I’m not going to name names in case they are worried about being brought up-- but a few of them played astrologian at a very high level and were clearing the savage tier in almost week 1 or week 2 about there.

For anyone less familiar with what astrologian is, let me say that you will be hard pressed to find a harder job to prog on. It’s very high APM, you’re monitoring so many effects and procs and healing the team and at risk of doing it a disservice I’ll cut it short that playing AST in general is impressive and these controller console playing players were exceptional.

At risk of answering further questions I compiled, the difference between a good player and a bad player isn’t in are they on a controller or not-- it comes down to do they know their rotation, their gearsets, do they know the fight mechanics and are they well practiced
