QT30E - NumBlast - A PS3 Puzzle Game With Working Online Leaderboards And A Crazy Story
The newest video in the QT30E series is the #PS3 version of #NumBlast, a game developed by Japan Studios and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
This is a game, much like last week's Nucleus video https://youtu.be/e7syynQhm6M, that i've had and i'm sure i've played before but i just can't remember when. this game came out on PSP as well so it's possible i played it, or a demo of it, on that.
The story for this game is somewhat bonkers. as a puzzle game, there's not so much of a demand for a story, but as they tried to make one and create a world this game takes place in i can appreciate it, but i can also say it's bonkers. some of the things that happen in this video were truly unexpected!
as for the gameplay, it feels like a good first step but ultimately it was kinda one note and lacks something to keep me coming back. For example, with #lumines you have a similar gameplay mechanic and in that game i can spend an hour or two playing endless mode. what helps it from being stale is that instead of a level up, the stages change. that change brings different speeds, sounds and backgrounds. here, endless mode just gets more difficult and in this video i saw all the different things in the mode. the only reasons the game has for you to keep coming back are beating your high scores, and yes the online leaderboards are still going, and trophies, which at the time was more of a thing than they maybe now.
playing this game gave me a lot of ideas on how a sequel could take this initial idea and expand on it. this feels like a good start, but i'm left wanting more. it's still on the #PSN and if it's cheap it might be worth it. as it's a puzzle game, for some people it'll be exactly what they need but for others maybe not so much. so i hope this video gives you an idea if it's something you're interested in.
