Quake 1 pre-alpha MP test
89This is the first public release of Quake, intended for MP play. I am running it in SVGA (800x600 - higher resolutions are bugged) resolution in DOSBox. We can see it's different to the final release, some guns look and sound different, especially the nail gun. The character sounds and HUD are also different and there are some other differences. The default controls in this version are very unstandardized, novice players would have huge difficulties playing it like this. There are no bots either so it's good only for a small showcase. All three maps that come with it are shown. Quake was one of the first true 3D games and designed for Intel Pentium processors and their fast floating point unit.
