(EXPAND DESCRIPTION FOR MY IMPRESSIONS OF THE GAME)

Release Date: 1996
Developer: id Software
Publisher: is Software
Game Type: First-Person Shooter

The only "free" version I managed to get my hands on is a version which has the music ripped.

Quake definitely shook things up on the FPS scene. First game to embrace mouse look which turned out to be the go to control scheme for all future FPS games after a while.

Foregoing a "use/interact" button, with switches being either plates that you need to step on, push buttons on walls that you need to walk against. Or red switches that you need to shoot to activate.

Be warned if you want to play this version, I highly suggest you skip Dosbox and go straight for Quake Pro. Basically get the version linked, copy the executables from the Quake Pro download into your quake folder. And you will be able to run quake with it. I seemingly get better performance with the GL .exe than the dx8 .exe. Your mileage may vary.

This version has very crude animations for the monsters. I think they were revised only in later iterations of the game. Still enjoyable nonetheless! :)

There are a lot of guides available on how to add music. Here is a link to a steam page that explains how to make it happen. Take note that the Quake Pro executables do not support music playback. Here is the link to Quake Pro page: http://quakeone.com/proquake/
