Descent 2 is an amazing follow up to Descent 1. Higher resolution. The Guide bot (albeit optional for purists). So many things have Descent 2 stand out from it's previous iteration.

That being said they didn't re-invent the wheel either. The formulaic Find the keys, find to the reactor, blow it up and escape is still there. I'm glad they didn't' mess with that part because I find it rather enjoyable.

This game begs to be played with a great joystick. But I'm not sure how extensive joystick support is on Dosbox. I still manage to get used to it with the keyboard. But then again I play dwarf fortress and cataclysm without blinking an eye. Spider fingers required. ;)

It appears that it's really hard to emulate this game at 60 fps. Tried my best to push the cycles to the max(178k). But I was still getting severe dips during skirmishes. One might have better results with a VM? Descent two at it's lower resolution definitely had the easier task at hand.
