Heretic gets an infusion of RPG in the form of classes. Fight, Cleric and mage. A rather cool concept to see in these earlier years of first person shooters.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, hexen builds on the previous iteration of Heretic. A more refined level design with perhaps somewhat obtuse puzzles, and some pixel hunting for some of the hidden switches. Not super fun to find this in an FPS. But I think they really wanted to try and branch out from the all guns blazing narrative that dominated the first person shooters at this point.
Be mindful I totally get lost for a good 5-6 minutes in the second level. :) Maybe you should just download it and play it yourself. :D
