Quake (2021) - Dimension of the Machine - Episode: Final Level (playthrough)
Just like original Quake, the game finishes off by playing a single, short level that consists of fighting the big guy. Compared to what Quake offered, this actually felt like a boss fight, even if the boss is reused. Though, one of the best things I'd say for classic gamers is that the map is wholly comprised of the classic textures. Yeah.
To be fair, Shub-Niggurath's fight in the original did not really feel like a fight at all, she just stands there doing nothing while other monsters come and get you. You just telefrag her and you win. Chthon's fight always felt more like a fight since he was always attacking you, in both Quake and DoTM. Although in Quake, all you had to do was to activate an electric terminal to defeat him, but you could always just give yourself the Lightning Gun using a command and you wouldn't have to use it at all. But since in here, you have to hit him more times to defeat him for good, it felt like Quake boss fights reached its peak. Well, Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity also gave us proper boss fights so yeah.
