And there it is. A couple boss fights - with a whole lot of black holes being thrown at them. There was a little bit of repetition, at least in the goals, but the path to each was unique so that's not a problem at all. The first boss we got to kill had one annoying section where he just flies over you and lets the heat from the rockets damage you. But I was just unloading black holes into him. I'd been saving them for this section anyway. Beyond that, one more level with a lot of enemies to tear through, including a gauntlet at the end, and then the final boss in several parts. It took me a little bit to figure out the final bit - because gamers don't look up enough - but I worked through it.

I did have a lot of fun with this. It's still a shooter with the old school mentality. Lots of weapons, lots of enemies, and you're the one to wipe everything out. The war rests on your shoulders. And it feels good. I'd love to see more done with the Strogg using some modern conventions set by Id's more recent games. Doom 2016 and Eternal have raised the bar, and a sci-fi take on them could be amazing. This game even sequel baited, of course. And there's a backstory for your man character that is never touched on. There's more stories available here, and the setting is amusing. Though the issue really is the name. The worst thing Id did with Quake 2 was name it "Quake 2", though I suppose that's better than "Wor".... -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
