Quake II: Quake Harder - 08 - Unit 2: Station (4 of 4)
For me, one of the most common thoughts when playing Quake II for the first time was "oh, I recognize that wall texture/sound effect from that one Doom .wad/mod/TC!"
At this point you probably *could* reasonably recreate a lot of first-person shooters in Doom. The source ports have higher system requirements than a lot of the games themselves at this point, but it's the principle of the thing.
Oh, and here's that QDOOM thing I mentioned: http://www.doomworld.com/fanatic/qdoom.htm It was finished in 2001, so it's a bit archaic in terms of the source port and how everything is put together. A more recent example of the same argument would be Paranoid, which does the same for Half-Life ( http://zdoom.org/wiki/Paranoid ).
