Quake II RTX playthrough Part 2
And today we delve deeper into the Stroggos base. Going through caves, shutting off a factory, and on our way to the big gun. We've got all the weapons, so we're on to the final points of the game. Hopefully, I can finish it off tomorrow. The RTX engine really has rekindled my love of this game. Though most of that love, of course, came from multiplayer. This game was one of the real revolutions in gaming. Sure, you could mod games well before this, and Quake 1 had Quake C as a programming language to help, the game built around it. But this is the generation where mods really shone, in my opinion. You could do so much more with the game, expand it far beyond even the devs' wildest dreams.
Of course, modern games don't allow that anymore. The landscape has shifted. And I genuinely think we, as consumers, are far worse off for it. And the devs just don't seem to realize, we have to buy their core games to play those good mods. They were getting more eyes on their product for no work of their own. But they also weren't profiting extra, and that's where the problem came. Such a shame.
As for the single-player story of Quake 2, it's not great. Never was. But that was never really the point of the game. It exists so that the game can be sold as a game, but it was access to the engine you were really buying. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
