
X-COM: Apocalypse failed playthrough Part 6 Final (Fail state)
We've reached a fail state. Research was required to obtain from crashed ships. However, I was never able to actually investigate a crashed ship. The game simply did not let me. Well, it also hadn't let me capture aliens - alive OR dead - until a research was completed, and then a component built. Which meant the game directed me to waiting until a research was completed for the UFOs as well. This is not the case. It turns out I needed to use an air craft, with crew and cargo space, to investigate the ships. Despite trying to send people and ground vehicles, becuase I didn't send the AIR vehicle, it didn't work. The game never gave any indication of this.
I will attempt the game again another time. But I consider this a big failure point of this game. Not only did it not give me any indication of what I needed to do, it actively guided me in the wrong direction thanks to other areas of design of the game. And that's a failure. At this point in the game, I am no longer able to shoot down ships (and, indeed, some of the ships I need to shoot down no longer appear at all). So we've reached a fail state. There's no point in continuing. Even Terror from the Deep gave you a SMALL chance to recover (remember, the nearly two in-game YEARS worth of reloading to find the missions with the one rare enemy).
