Quake Rerelease: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2310/QUAKE/
Quakespasm: https://sourceforge.net/projects/quakespasm/files/

Here is how I set up Quake 64 for Quakespasm with a Nintendo 64 controller!

00:00 - Setting Up Quakespasm
--------------------------------------------------------
You will need to have loaded the Quake rerelease and have added Quake 64 in the DLC menu previously, otherwise it wont appear in your user folder.

Windows Location: C:\Users\[user name]\Saved Games\Nightdive Studios\Quake\q64\
Linux Proton Location: ~/.steam/steamapps/compatdata/2310/pfx/drive_c/users/Saved Games/Nightdive Studios/Quake/

02:33 - N64 Controller Setup
--------------------------------------------------------
Specific bindings can vary from controller to controller, as I have a N64 to PC adapter which is no longer in production. I did not bind F6 and F9 in the steam options for Quakespasm, but it will be a good idea to do that so you can save. I like an inverted analog stick in Quakespasm, and in the console (` key) it can be set up via following command.

joy_invert 1 - this inverts the free look

08:10 - Quake 64 Setup
--------------------------------------------------------
Here are video options I set up via the console (` key) to get it to look more like it did on the N64. Quake 64 has inconsistent texture resolutions, so linear filtering helps hide that, but then I try to compensate for the blurriness of that.

gl_texturemode gl_linear - linear filter to look closer to N64
r_scale 4 - this increases pixel size to closer match the N64 320x240 resolution
r_lerpmodels 0 - n64 didn't have smooth animations
gl_texture_anisotropy 1 - lowering anisotropy seems to increase sharpness

crosshair 1 - crosshair helps a ton with a controller
scr_crosshairscale 2 - matching the crosshair size to the resolution
scr_sbaralpha 0 - quake 64 didn't have a HUD background
scr_sbarscale 3 - increase HUD size to match resolution

10:16 - Playing Quake 64!
--------------------------------------------------------
Now have some fun with Quake 64! It you want to get extra fancy, you can have Quakespasm playing on one monitor. Then you can use OBS, like my set up, to frame limit it to 30 fps (yes quasiotter!) and crop it to 4:3 aspect ratio. Also if you have a webcam, you can show off the best controller ever made, the Nintendo 64 controller!
