Feel free to check out the description for my initial thoughts about the game.

Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share the pure gameplay experience with you.

Today we're taking a look at Quantum Break on the Xbox Series S.

My immediate impressions so far:

Quantum Break is both an interesting and certainly an ambitious game with fun gameplay and a rather engaging story.

Running on the Series S definitely reveals that this is the One S version of the game with visuals occasionally appearing blurry. To my knowledge, Quantum Break has not been optimised in any way for the new generation of consoles. It still looks pretty good, especially considering the limitiations of the hardware, but it doesn't feel as next gen like Borderlands 3, Gears 5 and others do. To be fair, those games have been optimised but even other One games I've played look better. Perhaps it's by design to give the game a more cinematic look. I checked the options (off-camera) but I couldn't find anything to remove any blur effect or anything.

I also noticed a few times where the game chucked along with drops in frame rates. Or at least what appeared to be drops in fps. It was mostly during cutscenes, so I don't actually know if it was intentional to play along the time element of the game. My guess is that it is by design.

Regardless, the gameplay itself felt solid and it was just a blast to play. It has minor issues (not game-breaking) and the gameplay as well as the audiovisual presentation could benefit from an update or next gen patch. The auto HDR does help a lot, however, and the quick load times greatly enhances the experience.. All in all, Quantum Break is simply an intense and highly entertaining ride despite the game looking and feeling much like what it is: the One S version.

The game seems to run at 1080p at 30fps, but I sadly don't the proper tools to either check or verify.

The game was recorded directly on the console to an external HDD. No postwork has been done.
