These voicelines have lived in my brain for over a decade and I’ve decided to make them your problem now.

Uh, I mean, let’s look at an example of how games can leverage their mechanics to tell their stories!

Sands of Destruction is a game that’s been stuck in my head ever since I first played it. It’s a bit of a mess, but it’s an evocative mess. At least for me. But one idea I always thought was cool was the Quips system. It kinda reminded me of the Titles system from Tales, but with a much more immediate mechanical focus. Thought it was a really clever way to reinforce characterization, so here I am talking about it.

Oh, and due to the auditory nature of this topic, I had to try some new stuff in editing. Let me know what you think.

Also, I definitely didn’t spend hours last night trying to get the perfect clip, only to realize after the fact that I couldn’t even use it for this format and making a crestfallen me put off the rest until the next day. No sir, that did not happen.

Lies aside, I think that’s all for this week. Thanks as always for your time. And till next time, take care out there.
