R-Type Final 2 Stage Z1.0 with Cross the Rubicon R-Typer
5This video is part of a larger playlist that encompasses the Ship Showcase. This is the fortieth video that I recorded.
Cross the Rubicon is a highly defense ship with its Force. The red weapon fires three red lasers that are spread out among the tentacles and need some aiming with horizontal movement if you want to focus the shots. The blue weapon fires beams from the middle of the tentacles and is very good. The yellow weapon has yellow arms that sprout from the ends of the tentacles. The Photon Missile has limited homing capability and causes an AoE explosion. I was using the Shadow Bits here, which leave trails on movement that damage the enemy, so they can be good defensively. The Flexible Force has a wide set of tentacles that can wrap around the ship with the correct horizontal movement, making it a defensive powerhouse. It can be difficult to shoot what you want to shoot at though. The Force homes in on enemies while detached and firing, making its destructive capability pretty high. The Wave Cannon is an AoE blast that can go through walls and solid objects.
This stage is an homage to irem's Mr. Heli. I've watched a video, and it's apparently the first stage from that game. The music is cute and the graphics are charming, and the whole stage reminds me of something out of Parodius. I really wanted to get this stage with a normal ship, and I'm glad I was able to on R-Typer. I found this stage to be wildly difficult, and it took several tries before I could get a good recording.
My original plan was to play this stage with the Golden Selection, but the boss is so vertically oriented that I had a rough time with it. Looking over the playlist, I saw that I'd already recorded the Albatross and the Eclipse, and thinking it over, I finally realized that I hadn't recorded Cross the Rubicon, so I was happy to use it here so I could focus on dodging the boss while the Force killed it.
Cross the Rubicon is a ship that showed up in R-Type Final, and if you used it in stage 3.0 in that game, it would lead you to stage 3.5, Forest Watchdog, wherein you would fly through the Bydo Forest and destroy the captured R13 at the end of the stage.
I always play this game on my laptop, because I can comfortably see the whole screen. If you notice, you can see the mouse cursor at the top left in these videos. I don't know how to get rid of the mouse, so I just leave the cursor out of the way. Anyway, I forgot to exit out of the ending screen, and you can see me move the cursor to stop the recording near the end of the video. Just a small, pointless fact for anyone who was wondering.
