R-Type Final 3 Stage E4.0 with Platinum Heart R-Typer3
This video is part of a larger playlist that encompasses the Ship Showcase from R-Type Final 2. I've used the Platinum Heart before, but for RTF3, I was using the ships that were best for each stage suited to my play style.
The Platinum Heart is a POW Armor style ship that has some great weapons. The red weapon is a continuous silver laser that shoots straight ahead. The blue weapon fires two lasers that home in on enemies. The yellow weapon is a vertical laser that fires continuously. I was using the Mirror Shield Bits as an extra measure of defense, and you can see the bullets reflect off of them. Missiles are Enhanced Homing Missiles that cut through popcorn enemies until they're off screen, and are highly damaging. The Wave Cannon on this ship fires in the standard way when the Force isn't in front of it, but as soon as the beam hits the Force, it scatters the beams in front of it.
This stage is hell to me in R-Type Final 3. I practiced this stage for weeks on R-Typer3 until I could get it, and even now it's still not consistent whether I do. You have to memorize enemies in front and behind, as well as working your way around lasers that your Force can't block. The conveyor belts on the top and bottom of the stage can slow your ship down if you're bumping into them when you move. This is the hardest stage in the game to me.
The boss is Cyclone 44, and fires lasers in a pinwheel motion, changing directions with each cycle. You have to stay in between to survive, and I used the Platinum Heart because I could keep track of the ship's hitbox and not die while moving. After it does the pinwheel, Cyclone 44 tries to crash into you, and then fires destructible bullets. There is a semi safe spot on the left side of the screen in the tunnel that you came from, but I have been crushed over there before, so I need more practice to make it more consistent - I was backed up in the bottom left of the tunnel and the boss moved down and blew me up on one attempt. Hmmm...
I've mentioned before that I like to stay at speed 3, because it's comfortable for me, but R-Type Final 3 has taught me to adjust it up or down depending on the stage. I had to use speed 2 for the first half, then 3, then back to 2 for a precision part, and then speed 4 for the boss. Whew.
Last - the music in this stage is awesome. It's not my style overall, but it's cool music for a shmup. It's written in the rules of the universe that a shmup has to have a good soundtrack, and R-Type Final 3 succeeds with that.
