R-Type Final 3 Stage E6.0 with Wave Master R-Typer3
This video is part of a much larger set that encompasses the R-Type Final 2 Ship Showcase. I've used the Wave Master before, but for R-Type Final 3, I had to use ships that fit my play style in different stages.
The Wave Master is an Arrowhead style ship. The red weapon fires a criss cross of DNA style beams straight ahead. The blue weapon is the classic reflecting laser. The yellow weapon shoots beams at 45 degree angles to the floor and ceiling, which is only good in stages that have them, and even then it's usually outclassed by the blue weapon. The missiles are standard Homing Missiles, good for all occasions. The Bits are Shield Bits, and will block bullets much like the Force does. The Force fires a huge spray of bullets while detached, making it extremely powerful if you can lodge it into large Bydo, and even clear out smaller Bydo. The Wave Cannon is a four loop charge and is fairly devastating to whatever it hits while charged up that far. I hardly used it, relying more on my detached Force to destroy enemies.
This stage has you flying through a gear maze, wherein the gears will shoot bullets or lasers at you. I'll admit that I'm prone to panic flying, because it's hard for me to keep track of the bullets that come out while the gears are in motion. Those green ships that fly out shoot reflecting bullets, so it pays to take them out fast, because you cannot block them with your Force.
The boss is The Great Planetary Gear, and rolls at you, covering the entire screen. There are alcoves on the top that you can hide your ship inside, but as the screen relentlessly scrolls to the right, you have to be careful not to get crushed by it. You can hide the ship in the top left along the ceiling just under the alcoves and the boss will not crush you there, but you have to fly along the opening when it starts rolling again to not die. You can see that I almost forgot because of nerves while recording, and I'm lucky that the ship's hitbox doesn't match the actual graphic. Whew. I've seen a lot of players fly inside the gear and stay between the three inner gears while keeping pace to destroy them. I tried that, but it didn't work for me. After I watched a video of someone timing out the boss and found out about the safe spots on the ceiling, I knew I could jam the Wave Master's Force inside while trying to avoid the boss and its bullets. It worked, and now I have a strategy for this stage. Still need more practice with it though.
