R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 (PlayStation)
4R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 is an arcade racing game released by Namco in 1998 for the PlayStation. With its stylish graphics, music, and diverse vehicle system, it is regarded as one of the representative titles of the later series.
The Grand Prix mode (Real Racing Roots ’99) featured in this video is the core content of the game. Players choose one of four teams to enter the tournament and compete in a total of eight races in sequence. The tournament is divided into three stages (Heat 1, Heat 2, Final GP), and players must meet the minimum placement requirement in each stage to advance to the next. Depending on performance, new cars are unlocked or existing vehicles are upgraded.
Vehicles vary depending on the combination of manufacturer, team selection, and race results, and driving styles are split into drift-focused and grip-focused types, offering different play experiences. The tracks consist of eight city-based courses, enhanced with changes in time of day and atmosphere for greater visual immersion.
