The Test Drive games were a massive part of my teenhood. I just played the crap out of them on the PS1. Along with NFS, this was one of the defining racing games that were a must-play for racing fans. This channel is no stranger to TD. With the early DOS version to the later titles, there would be no exception with exploring version 5. PitBull Syndicate knew how to put together some very solid racing games. Granted the TD series was more on the Arcade side of racing, it for what it is, it's still awesome enough.

While revisiting TD5, I forgot how hard this game was. While revisiting this game, I asked myself "how was I able to play this game in the past". Granted, I haven't touched this game in several years. The Scotland stage was one of the harder ones too! How best to race across the Isles than with a Jag! Or more specifically, a 1998 Jaguar XKR. TD5 supported both Direct3D along with the 3FDX Voodoo 2. TD5 ran mostly well on 86Box given the emulated specs, which is the fastest machine that can be emulated given the constraints of the host platform. The FPS varied at times, but was mostly stable enough, and playable still.

86Box is emulating a multimedia PC with Shuttle HOT-557 Socket 7 (Daul Voltage) i430VX motherboard, IDT WinChip2 Processor running at 233MHz with 64MB's of RAM. Also installed is a 3DFX Voodoo 3 1000 Accelerator with Windows running at the screen resolution of 640 by 480, 16-bit color depth. Also installed is a Creative Labs SoundBlaster AWE32 for audio and an AMD PCnet-FAST III NIC installed for networking support. The Dell OEM version of Windows 98 is installed.
