Radek Sterba (Raster) - "Videopoly" -- Chiptune Visualization / Atari SAP
70I just found out today (November 24th, 2011) that Radek Sterba has passed away early this year, in July. He will be missed by many. Truly a great man, and a hugely important figure in the Atari scene.
I always thought his music had a careful, harmonic and subtle touch that no other Atari composer had. His melodies were very emotional as well, and this particular tune is a good example. It's short and very bittersweet.
He's always been one of my favorites ever since I stumbled upon the Atari SAP Music Archive.
So here's to you, Raster. Rest in peace, and thanks for everything you've done to make this world a more interesting place.

So, I decided to take a look at all the separate channels of some chiptune music at once. Thought it might look cool, since those waveforms are usually so pretty. I quickly put together a script to create this and other videos.
This video has a lame naive timbre-capture algorithm: it just finds the first zero-crossing and locks it to the left side of the screen. This way you see waveforms aligned to each other - at least most of the time. A decent algorithm is trickier than I thought. Until then, have another one. YouTube needs more chiptune anyway.
