Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PS5 4K 60FPS - Part 13 - Ending + Review
Finally got around to playing Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on PS5. Was it worth the wait? I think so. For reference, I never played the previous titles in the series, so I'm basing this as a stand-alone game.
+ (Positives)
+ Visuals are top-notch
+ Amazing worlds to visit
+ Color Palette exceptional
+ Steady 60FPS in exchange for 1440P. Also offers VRR support, which is a huge plus!
+ Kit & Clank were better than Ratchet & Rivet, in my opinion
+ Voice actors - James Arnold Taylor (Tidus) and Jennifer Hale (EE from MGS2) did well
+ Seamless transitions using PS5's SSD. Thank you!
+ Non-existent load times! Extremely nice if you're unlucky and have to restart from a death
+ Haptics were great
+ Short campaign. Less is more in a game like this.
+ Weapon customization and leveling up via skill tree
- (Negatives)
- Anomaly. Anomaly. Anomaly. Fun at first, but they really ruin the pacing of the game. Nothing worse than heading to a massive fight, only to find out you have to spend the next hour figuring out these damn puzzles lol. I get what the creators were going for, but they should've made this optional. Especially the last one. Took me a full hour just to figure it out and really ruined all the pacing that the prior scenes had built up:/
- Camera Issues. Not major, but I did notice it enough to put it down here. With how fast the combat is in this game, especially on 60FPS, there were times where the camera got in the way of fighting and I had no idea what was going on. It didn't happen too often, but when it did, it really pulled me out of the fighting and made for a less than stellar time.
That's about it after the playing the game. This title I was really hoping would come to Playstation Plus membership and after getting a chance to playthrough this title, I'm glad I did. The groundbreaking elements to this game were easily the use of seamless transitions and non-existent loading due to the SSD of the PS5. As for everything else...it's nothing new, but not every title has to be. And that's exactly why I love this game, minus the few camera issues and anomaly quests.
What Ratchet & Clank has done is perfected a formula of fun and dynamic gameplay while showing off what future developers can accomplish with the PS5's SSD. The short campaign, combined with the likable characters of Clank & Rivet left me feeling like I was transported back to the PS2 era days when developers truly released a product that was designed for the consumers to enjoy as is - without DLC and without major bugs and patches. The game ran exceptionally well and is highly-polished PlayStation title, and that's exactly what I was hoping to get from a game like this.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - 9/10 (The Anomaly puzzles brought this down a point)
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5 - 10/10 (Zero issues running the game and the SSD really shines with this game)
Amazing job, Insomniac Games! Also, please if you have the chance, make a Spyro 4 for PS5. Just putting it out in the universe! The revival would be perfect at utilizing the SSD of the PS5 with instant load times and world-building!
