Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction Part 5: Clank is Going Insane
So, after getting our new whip and progressing through the level, we got to a point where Clank started to see these small creatures who pointed him towards a particular building. I think the stress of saving the Galaxy a fourth time is starting to get to Clank’s nerves at this point if he is starting to hallucinate. But, thanks to his odd hallucinations, he somehow evolved wings that we could use. I don’t think that flying is new to the series (in fact, I think it was introduced in the second game and possibly the third) but this game has a newer way to do it. I think this game was released really close to the initial launch of the Playstation 3 because it utilizes the Sixaxis, essentially motion-controls for a control. We have used these motion controls before when sky diving but now we have to use it to fly around the map using these controls. It definitely feels really weird to do it (like I say several times, this is one of the first, if not the very first, game that I’ve played with motion controls that are in a controller); The controller reacts fine when using it but it feels strange to move the entire controller instead of using the analogy sticks. This game does use this motion-control mechanic quite a bit in the game, for better or for worse. Sometimes, it does feel a little forced (as we’ll get into at a later date) but other times, like this one, it’s okay. It will take some time before I can feel confident rotating my controller though.
