RayStorm Arcade from Ray’z Arcade Chronology Intro & Playthrough on PlayStation 4 [UHD 4K60]
Full longplay, playthrough, walkthrough, guide & gameplay from the Ray’z Arcade Chronology collection release on PS4 with the Neo HD version of RayStorm. Many video games series made the jump to 3D in the mid 1990s it's fair to say not always for the better as early 3D hardware didn't always do the game justice. Originally planned as a 2D sequel, development of the game originally know as R-Gear was scrapped early in development in favour of the Taito FX-1 system 3D board.
The end result is a somewhat mixed follow that didn't really need to use the 3D hardware. The game is quite sluggish as a result with huge hit boxes making the game much harder than its predecessor. The visuals also don't look very good either and the impressive pseudo 3D effects of the first game are replaced with some rather bland 3D visuals. It's still a decent game in its own right, but one just not as good as the original.
One the plus side there are plenty of large 3D bosses and enemies which still hold up well. The game has a solid soundtrack and makes good use of the 3D with enemies moving in and out of the battlefield. As you fly around ships and through bases. All the stages have a different look and feel and the second stage that has you blasting ships over the ocean has to be our favourite. The fly over the waterfall just as the boss appears in stage 3 is another great section. This version is a straight port of the arcade version so is missing the extra ship seen in the PS1 & SEGA Saturn console ports and even the earlier flawed Xbox 360 & PS3 HD version.
The NEO HD version seen in this one just smooths the original arcade textures making them a bit cleaner. The proper HD remaster done for the Xbox 360 & PS3 is not included.
