real time PC recording on Component input, Colossus 2 , part 2 of 4
remote scrolling shows real time performance
of Colossus 2 PC recorder , on Component input .
win TV 85 good version oct 17 , 2017
"GAME" setup access analogue ports
2 channels Component\HDMI
Shift + switches back to HDMI
Part 1 and Part 4
are the most important , when using this setup .
Colossus 2 really does have a\is a
Component to HDMI converter ,
that is recordable .
press Alt-Spacebar to Start Stop recording .
see Part 1 and Part 4
for full instructions .
No more 2 second lag delay .
the overall big trick is to always use
Colossus 2's HDMI out , to go to the TV\monitor .
Because Colossus 2's HDMI out , is Real Time pass thru .
if you continue to view everything in Capture's view screen window , then everything will have that 2 second lag delay .
Part 1 and Part 4
are the most important parts , to get a trouble free
real time setup .
again , i view the PC desktop in real time and record the PC desktop in real time . i also can switch to Component input
while on the PC desktop , to view and record Component
video\audio in real time with No lag delay .
This video was
recorded on RGB Component input with Dolby 2.0 audio using SPDIF .
The Yellow scroll bar tearing has NOTHING to do with Colossus 2 .
i went to a completely different TV with same model cable box
and it tears too . So the tearing occurs because of how the yellow
bar graphic is injected into the video signal , within the cable box .
this is Part 2 .
see Part 1 , for the "Colossus 2" Real-Time setup .
Once ,
i considered getting an external HDMI switch box .
Colossus 2 , with this setup , is now an :
HDMI switch and a Component port switch .
When the PC desktop is visible ,
the HDMI port is selected .
When the cable box\PS2\PS3\PS4\XBOX
is visible , the Component port is active .
With this configuration setup , there is no need
for an external switch box .
Because i am using the Colossus 2 as a "Smart Switch box" ,
"Smart" , because Colossus 2 is acting like a switch box
that plays and records !
The Component video quality is really good , and
the Component records with
Dolby ( 5.1 or 2.0 audio , depending on the SPDIF Dolby source ) .
everything is Always Full Screen and in Real Time .
it also records on the Composite input port , with Dolby ( 5.1 or 2.0 audio ) .
the color saturation on Composite is slightly washed out , as expected .
Composite records at 720 x 480 resolution .
S-Video port is available too ,
The optional S-Video Header cable is a separate purchase from the Hauppauge store .
Video port switch :
HDMI
Component ( RCA jacks )
S-Video
Composite ( the "blue" video RCA jack )
Audio port switch
AV in ( Left\Right RCA jacks )
SPDIF ( optical )
HDMI
Line in ( there is a 3.5mm mini phono jack on the Colossus 2 )
inspect the included DIN breakout cable to find
the RGB RCA jacks , and the Left\Right RCA audio jacks .
The DIN plug fits somewhat loose in the back panel connector .
So , after connecting the 5 RCA cables , make sure the
DIN plug is pushed ALL the way in .
Component video Requires Audio on the "AV in" RCA jacks ,
in order to have video out of the Colossus 2 card .
As shown in Part 1 tutorial , the audio source can be switched
to the SPDIF port , After the Component port has been turned ON .
This real-time setup is slightly
Tricky
to use when working with the Component port .
Make an extra special effort when using the keyboard .
i use 2 hands , one to hold the Left-Shift key ,
the other to press Tab . Very deliberate effort .
Also , once the mouse is used to click on "Component" ,
Do NOT click on anything else .
Do NOT touch the mouse when using the Component port .
Why ?
because you MUST keep the Focus on the "Audio In" and "Video In" combo boxes .
If this Focus gets "lost" , there is No way to Switch back to the HDMI port .
if this happens to me ,
i use the "Power button" to "Shut Down" ( as selected in Windows Power Options ).
Then Power everything OFF .
The PC HDMI cable needs to now be routed Straight to the TV\monitor ( Pink Arrow see Part 1 )
Back at the desktop , launch Capture and set both Video In and Audio In
combo boxes to HDMI .
Shut down and power OFF again , and restore the HDMI cables .
if Hauppauge had a special key press to move Focus back to "Video In" combo box ,
then this setup would be perfect .
I have NOT found such a key press .
this new setup allows :
viewing both HDMI and Component ports , in real time .
recording both HDMI and Component ports , in real time .
originally , only the HDMI port could be Real Time .
Down side ?
can't watch the external cable box\console , in Capture's view window , while on the PC desktop .
However , audio from an external cable box\console is still available from
within the Capture utility .
just select SPDIF , AV In , or Line In .
AMD supports HDMI audio for the PC desktop( to TV speakers ) .
plus , USB headset still works for games .
