Welcome back to the recording guide! This week, I'll be taking a look at EQ, Compression, and other FX you can add!
This is where mixing gets fun, but tedious. The sounds up to this point aren't all that glamorous, so adding FX like EQ & Compression can really make a mix shine more than it already did. You'll notice in my mixing I don't go too overboard on what I do with FX; there are limits at which the sound is overprocessed and ruined. For a metal mix, you want it to still be somewhat raw, but tame or boost characters that are either necessary or not. This is a much longer process than the basic mixing and will also take a very long time to get used to
(wow a second paragraph for once) I would suggest, if you're struggling, obviously ask me and I can help however I can, but if you're still struggling, check out Getgood Drums on YouTube and their mixing master classes. The Periphery IV It's Only Smiles series is what led to the mixes I have now. I wish I'd found GGD sooner, else my mixes would have been much better a lot sooner. Go check them out for additional help, but I'll still try my best!
I am more than happy to answer any questions you have in the comments! Please ask away as necessary!
