Renault 5 Prototype Unveiled As Stylish EV
The automaker also outlined plans to release 14 electric and hybrid vehicles by 2025.The electric revolution is very much underway, with manufacturers across the world slowly shifting their focus to EVs as countries around the world look to ban the production of gasoline-powered cars. Renault is no stranger to electric cars, already having the Zoe in production but they are now launching a new electric strategy called “Nouvelle Vague,” and they hope that by 2025 they will have launched 14 new core vehicles with 7 of them being fully electric and the other 7 being in the C/D segment. The news came via a press-release at Groupe Renault’s Renaulution strategic plan launch, which revealed the company’s strategy for the next five years and beyond. The company aims to bring modernity to its lineup and to sustain the transition through not only electrified power but also through hydrogen power as well. The company states that it is the leader in the European electric market with 10 years of experience in EV mobility. That was not all the company announced either, as it revealed a new electric car as part of this strategy. Renault Design Director Gilles Vidal says, “The design of the Renault 5 Prototype is based on the R5, cult model of our heritage. This prototype simply embodies modernity, a vehicle relevant to its time: urban, electric, attractive.” The lines of the Renault 5 have received the modern treatment with plenty of flush services allowing for a futuristic look to the car, but with plenty of nods to the original such as the side grid, the wheels, and the car's rear logo. The Renault R5 first appeared in 1972 and remained in production for over 14 years and became Frances's most popular car with over 5.5 million sales recorded. And now, with the company outlining its electric future, they have launched an all-new electric Renault 5 that harks right back to the origins of the original car while also looking forward to the future of mobility, and incorporating modern styling that we all know and love. Renault makes it clear that they want to incorporate as much as they can from the original design as possible to make it a true successor.
