Research: Oldest human fossils are 1 million years older than estimated
A new study has revealed that some of the oldest human fossils found in South Africa are 1 million years older than previously thought.
Numerous fossils have been found in the Sterkfontein caves, a world heritage site known as the "Cradle of Mankind" in Johannesburg.
According to the information in GOLAHURA, among them was "Mrs. Ples" in 1947. Ples and other fossils were estimated to be between 2.1 and 2.6 million years old, based on previous measurements. However, a new study has revealed that this is not so chronologically.
Using a method called cosmogenic nuclide dating in the latest study, the researchers found that fossils in and near Miss Ples were essentially 3.4 to 3.7 years old.
It was noted that these findings will contribute to the study of human history.
