Resident Evil is the first game that spawned a series about the evil medical company Umbrella and their experiments on viruses to create biological weapons to unleash upon humankind.
This first game takes place in the Arklay Mountains not far from Racoon City. A series of bizarre events and murders have taken place in the nearby town and Team Bravo of the local S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service) is sent to investigate. After losing contact with Team Bravo, Team Alpha is sent to locate and rescue them, which leads them into the woods were they are assaulted by beasts and find the remains of their mates murdered and partially eaten.
They escape to a mansion in the mountains and are locked in, with no means of escaping the hellish creatures outside, and decide to search the mansion for clues and possible friendlies in an effort to survive their ordeal...
