This short DIY shows how I created this photo magnet of our cat Humphrey using ArtResin.
First put on some bodacious jams or an awesome movie.
Cover your work space with newspaper or a disposable table cloth.
Put on disposable gloves and eyewear for extra protection.
Mix resin according to the package, scrapping the sides and bottom of container thoroughly.
Stir a few small drops of white acrylic paint and mixed thoroughly. Don't add too much to were the paint affects the resin curing.
Clean off a ceramic magnetic disc to wipe off access dust to prevent contamination and place in the bottom of a brownie silicon mold.
Pour white resin onto the magnet disc until completely covered.
Use your stir stick to center the magnet disc if it shifts and press down to rid of air bubbles.
Use torch or heat gun to pop bubbles that rise to the surface.
Place something over the mold to prevent dust settling in before the resin has cured.
In about 12 hours remove cured resin piece. Times may differ depending on climate.
Print an image you want to use on a laser transparency film.
Use super glossy Mod Podge and brush a thin coat onto resin piece.
Carefully place image onto wet Mod Podge and smooth out bubbles, press into place and let dry.
Apply another thin coat of super glossy Mod Podge to seal and let dry completely before moving on.
Dome resin to the top of the resin piece.
Use a torch or heat gun to pop any bubbles that appear.
Wait 72 hours to fully cure.
As you can see from my magnet a bubble sat on the bottom. You may want to pour a small amount of resin before placing the magnet disc into the mold to ensure the resin cures around it. Other than that, not bad for my first time using resin. Embedding the magnet into the piece eliminates bulkiness from gluing a magnet to the already cure resin piece.
I found this resin was easy to work with a 1:1 ratio and dries super clear. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who uses resin for their crafting as a business or hobby.
