Dig Dug was developed by Namco in 1982 and
released on the ps4, xbox1, and pc through the arcade game
series. The object of the game is simple, dig tunnels and try
to defeat enemies with your pump or by dropping a rock on
them. Dropping two rocks on any level will cause a
vegetable to appear in the middle, which can net more
points. Dropping rocks on multiple enemies also increases
your score. The overall game design is rock solid and there
are multiple strategies you can use to complete the levels.
The controls is where this game suffers the most. They
aren't game-breaking by any stretch, but trying to make
quick turns results in screw-ups more often than you'd like.
This becomes more apparent when score hunting; while
you're trying to keep the enemies in control while you go
for a rock drop. Both the d-pad and analog stick can be
annoying, and the controls on the original cabinet and Atari
kinda sucked as well.
The graphics for Dig Dug were pretty good for it's time, but
I would have enjoyed more palettes swaps between levels.
The sound is neat, the music only plays when you're
walking. The PS4 emulation is alright, and comes with
online leaderboards and the ability to start from the level
your left off at. I spent an embarrassing amount of hours
trying to reach the last level, and was disappointed to find
out that there was no kill screen. They really should have
left this in as an option. I mean after all, they do have the
"old" and "new" option right there that addresses the freeze
glitch. Overall, Dig Dug is a timeless classic, but its tough
controls might stop some players from digging too deep. If
