Review: Temple Run 2 (iOS / Android)
Hello there, welcome to fabela iMag, my name is Fabian. Today I am going to show you a review of Temple Run 2, which is available for free for iOS and Android. Temple Run 1 is one of the classics of the App history and managed over 170 million downloads across all platforms. Now the developers have finally unveiled the successor, which follows the path of part 1. So Temple Run 2 is again an endless runner where you run through various sections, collect coins and power-ups and dodge obstacles and other hazards.
The game beginns with the run from a monster out of a cave, the first setting is a mystical mountain. Later you are going to see other areas as well. As usual you can turn left and right, jump and duck by wiping gestures, you can avoid obstacles by tilting your device. With ongoing playing time you get into new sections. Particularly interesting is a section in a mine where you are going on rails. Graphically, the developers improved the game a lot and have not - like so many other endless runner just flat ways - but also ups and downs. The graphic-quality is high, the retina-optic detailled and iPhone 5-optimized. The music - for my taste - could have used some more pace.
On your journey you will find coins - as usual for such games - which you can use for new characters and better power-ups. Here you can expect the usual coin-magnets, invulnerable power-ups, speed boosters or points multipliers. As a new game-element, the developers integrated diamonds as a second currency. You will find them sometimes in the game or by completing missions. With diamonds you can continue the game, when you slam against an obstacle or fall into an abyss. Not all players will welcome the diamonds, because you can buy coins and diamonds via InApp purchase. This means that high scores will be difficult to compare, because you do not know if one has invested a lot of money or if one ist a very good player.
My conclusion:
Temple Run 2 is a solid follow-up without any major surprises. The title features good graphics, solid gameplay, beautiful sections and a good playability. The fact that you get new chances with the diamonds is a good thing, however there remains some bad taste due to the fact, that you can buy them. But we must not forget that Temple Run 2 is available for free for iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Android, and that the developers have to earn their living through the InApp purchases. The Android version will be available after the 24th January. If you liked the previous title, this one will be a safe download. I look forward to your opinion of the game in the comments. Thank you for watching and see you next time.
