9,000 service people, up to 250 every day will have to go through the process known as RSOI. It is the final stage of preparation that can last more than a year and brings troops right up to date with the current level of threat and how best to confront it. Arguably the best-trained military, British forces can't afford complacency, especially when soldiering in one of the world's prime danger zones.
