Egress trainer may sound like a job in a circus but it is actually the latest piece of high-tech kit to reach the British military in Afghanistan. And it is no clowning matter. The "Rodet" is a £250,000 simulator designed to reduce the number of injuries caused when armoured vehicles tip over. A full-size passenger cabin sits in a cradle capable of turning the whole structure through 360 degrees to give troops a sense of what happens should their truck turn turtle. The machines were produced by the US military after logging 119 rollover incidents in a singe year. Two have just been installed inside marquees at Camp Bastion, Britain's main supply base in Helmand.
