Rise Of The Triad: Ludicrous Edition - Raw Meat & Lead
1"Here, catch!". Time sure flies doesn't it? 3 months left in the year, where does time go? If you were watching Realms Deep like me you saw a lot of stuff and the true scope of 3D Realms' "ambition", most of the games don't look even close to being done and Phantom Fury demo is the new worst thing I've ever seen on steam so far. But good news? Its time to eat lead for Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition which i've been anticipating forever is out for consoles.
Released on September 29th 2023, This enhanced version of the 1995 FPS game contains The HUNT Begins demo levels, Dark War, The expansion pack Extreme Rise of the Triad and a brand new episode named The HUNT Continues by the developers of Nightdive Studios and New Blood interactive giving it a LOT of content but there's also some new stuff including optional DooM like HUD, new sounds, Andrew Hulshult's 2013 Soundtrack from the ROTT reboot and cut beta enemies being restored to the game.
The gameplay is faster paced vs Doom in the sense that the engine used new features of the time such as various textured ceilings, GADS which can be rode and you know it, Ludicrous Gibs, Rise of the Triad is undoubtedly a gory game, rated a 4 back on the old video game rating system prior to the ESRB but that is one of a lot more things that makes the game that more memorable to me.
Between Lee Jackson/Robert "Bobby" Prince and Andrew Hulshult, I prefer the original OST as it gives ROTT a more comical but still brutal and gory vibe to it. A few minor things irk me about Ludicrous edition as autoaim works differently where you have to directly aim at the enemy and sometimes this is blocked by the scenery like pillars, while the enemy can shoot you through the scenery which is dumb to me, Running full speed in the game will be your death as hitscan chip damage and hazards like fireballs will hurt a lot. Secret walls are a must if you want to clear maps as some doors have keys and these keys are well guarded.
It may not be for everyone, but I love this game, It takes me back to a time when DOS PC games had floppy disks, CRT monitors were a thing and wow.. Dial up multiplayer for 11 players, that was a thing there. And for Plat hunters, This game will be a real steal at only 20 dollars.
