0https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/d-f/earth Far out man, anytime I go over a wad from the 1990's, it feels like I was never gone from that time period. I've often followed the top 100 wads for material for this series and arriving to be gone over from the same author who released Phobos, Roger Ritenour, is Earth which was a 1997 wad but was bumped to 1998 after supposedly being lost.
Earth was released on August 7th 1998, Its a 10 level PWAD containing a original story written by Roger in its text file, We've dropped landed on the planet earth on a rocky coastline on the hunt for a way to stop a demonic invasion. For 1998, Earth's mapping is quite abstract and not as rough as you'd expect, and there's some ideas Roger used which really have aged well.
The gentle music composed for Earth also gives it a different feel vs other 1998 wads, Ammo placement is good and there's never a real sense of getting lost unless you aren't paying attention to changes in the map layout, the last map though will be a test of your ability to keep calm in the face of many ambushes. A surprise hit, Earth to me embodies a hidden gem to a T with so much content to its name.
