Hopoo Games and Gearbox Publishing have released Risk of Rain 2, a roguelike third-person shooter. It was launched in early access for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2019, before being published completely on August 11, 2020, with a Stadia release following a month later.
Risk of Rain 2 uses the same idea as the original game, requiring one to four players to proceed through many stages while destroying opponents. The aim of each level is to find a teleporter that is randomly placed across the level; once triggered, the players must defend themselves against an onslaught of aliens, including monsters, until the teleporter is completely operational. Killing aliens earns you experience and cash, which you may use to open chests that drop things on the level at random. These collecting objects give a variety of benefits to the players who own them, including synergistic effects and the ability to stack effects if several copies of the same item are obtained.
However, every five minutes, the strength, difficulty, and quantity of aliens increase, making the game more challenging the longer the players stay on any level. By accomplishing specific in-game accomplishments, players get access to additional playable characters, objects, and game modifiers in the metagame; once unlocked, new characters or modifiers are available to choose from at the start of the game, or new things might emerge randomly in-game. Risk of Rain 2 retains many of the same playable characters, monsters, and objects as the previous game, but changes the game's setting from 2D to 3D.
Players take control of a survivor trapped on a distant world. To stay alive, they must travel across diverse locations, slaying creatures and finding chests for things that will help them improve their offensive and defensive abilities. The complexity of the game rises with time, producing increasingly powerful and hazardous monsters. In online multiplayer, the game supports up to four players.
