Robert Downey Jr. inspired Wes Bentley to quit using heroin
Wes Bentley says that watching Robert Downey Jr. publicly open up about his past drug use inspired him to seek help for a crippling heroin addiction in the late-aughts.
“I was in the deepest throes of my addiction and in the worst place and at death’s door, I guess, or at risk of it and I saw him be so bold and brave and open and it saved me,” the “Yellowstone” at the Season 5 premiere in New York on Thursday, the actor spoke with Page Six.
Therefore, I thought if I do that too, I might maybe pass it on to someone else, Bentley, who has been clean since 2009, said.
Almost soon after appearing in the much praised 1999 movie "American Beauty," Bentley developed a cocaine addiction.
Bentley was detained in 2008 and admitted to having heroin in his possession. He had to participate in 12-step programmes, but he relapsed. He finally found a man in 2009 who would assist him in permanently ending his drug use.
