I know what you're thinking... "Layers of Fear is an early access, first-person horror game, aren't there enough copycat horror games already?". We need to take a step backward. This is one of the rare instances where the usual baggage that comes with those denotations probably doesn't apply. Honestly, Layers of Fear by developer Bloober Team may not be finished yet, but what is here is surprisingly interesting and very promising and doesn't just cater to the usual jump-scare laden, blown-out-mic YouTube crowd (although I'm sure they'll play this anyway).

We'll go through the roughly 2.5 hours of content available while we try to piece together the sad story of an artist who has gone mad. The writing is actually one of the big stars here and pacing and atmosphere do well to prop it up and allow it to shine as it should. The developers take an almost "Gone Home with horror influence" to storytelling as most big pieces are explained through context.
