Rockman X3 2022NY - Time Attack: 1:39.17
7It's 2022 somewhere, so why not celebrate it the best way that I know how.
If one is familiar with Mega Man romhacking, then Puresabe should sound VERY familiar. Aside from his more well-known full romhacks (Rockman 4 Minus Infinity and Rockman 7 EP), he also has made several mini-hacks for New Year's for quite some time. Of course, this year is no different. So today, I'll showing off a short time attack playthrough of Rockman X3 2022NY.
I did the 2020 New Year's version nearly a couple of years ago, and, somehow, missed out on the 2021 version (but it *was* 2021, so maybe I can be cut a little slack on that one). However, I didn't miss this one, like the others, it's a short, one-boss fight that turns up said boss several notches and presents its own unique experience. That said, the focus of this New Year's hack is "The Year of the Tiger". With that in mind, the boss of the hack is Mega Man X3's Neon Tiger, and the fight is quite interesting... to say the least.
As X, you're given your dash upgrade from the start and you'll fight Neon Tiger from there. During points of the fight, you'll be given health refills to help you survive. However, once that boss health goes down to zero... well, you'll see as I won't spoil any further. Just know that both you AND Neon Tiger will be in for a slugfest. Note that Tiger has no hitbox and his I-Frames are very short. These are intentional design choices by Puresabe, and they fortunately help in trying to beat him as fast as possible. Also keep in mind that X, himself, has very little I-Frames, as Tiger's attacks will basically hit per frame in small increments, but you can dodge and escape most attacks that does so and come off with little damage. As such, I don't focus too much on dodging every attack. Just basically take attacks as they come, but not so much as to be deep in critical health while pressing the attack.
Overall, this was a blast to play, just like most of Puresabe's other Mega Man-related works. I encourage those who found this worth trying to look it up. I'll post the site where to get it. Naturally, since this is based off of a MMX3 rom, you're going to have to find said rom on your own. You know, legal ramifications and all. Anyway, this is the last video for the year on my side, and possibly the first video of 2022 for some of you others on that side of the world. Oh... I forgot. For those trivia fans out there, I have a task for you: Count how many references to attacks from specific RPGs are in this fight. I'm pretty sure some of you can guess a couple from one particular SNES RPG.
