After playing around with the ASUS ROG Ally X for a few weeks, it has become pretty clear to me where it stands in 2025, especially after seeing that is coming this year from CES. AMDs new Z2 series of chips is just not exciting enough to really make the ROG Ally X irrelevant in 2025. this mostly comes down to the fact that the Z2 non extreme is the Z1 extreme with a new name. At the price point that we are seeing Z1 Extreme systems launching from other manufacturers, it's clear the ROG Ally X is still going to have a big place in the market in 2025, especially since it is available today. if all we can expect under 1000 USD is systems with the Z1 Extreme or Z2 and larger displays, smaller or similar sized batteries, and similar or heavier weight, why wait for anything else to hit the market? The ROG Ally X is available today, and it beats out the Lenovo Legion Go S with the Z2 Go, while only being 70 dollars more expensive. And that's not even taking into account the original ROG Ally having the Z1E for less money than the Legion Go S. ASUS has priced their handhelds so aggressively compared to the rest of the windows handheld competition, that as it stands for me, the only real options to consider in 2025 are the ROG Ally, Ally X, and Steam Deck OLED or refurbished Steam Deck LCD.
