Rollercoasters in Minecraft: Ride Animations [2]
I updated my rollercoaster datapack (yes, this is not a mod, it's all purely vanilla!) with chained parts and an actual way to ride the coaster with animations and "physics"!
PHYSICS EXPLANATION FOR NERDS:
To achieve higher accuracy and different speeds, I use a system similar to the one discussed in my Prime Numbers in Minecraft video. Basically there is a velocity score that has a value, let's take 500, this is the velocity on chained pieces of the track. This 500 is blocks per tick * 10,000. That means 500 velocity is 0.05 blocks per tick, which is 1 block (meters) per second, or 3.6 km/h. The speed of the cart on chained parts is thus 1 m/s or 3.6 km/h.
When not on a chained piece, there are 3 possibilities. If the cart is going downhill, the velocity increases by 50 every tick, so it increases by 0.1 m/s every tick when going down. You can do the math on whether that's realistic or not and how I should tweak it. When it is going uphill it decreases the velocity by 50 every tick. When it is going straight (flat) or on turns (flat), the velocity is decreased by 10 every tick (0.02 m/s decrease every tick).
