Ronnie Lott’s Mangled Finger — Tales of Sports Foolishness (ep. 3)
Did Ronnie Lott really cut off his pinkie finger so he could get back to a football game? Let’s look back at one of the most famous, gruesome injuries in NFL history.
It's Tales of Sports Foolishness!
Notes:
*At the 9-minute mark, I meant to say "his FINGER," not his hand. D'oh!
*The following is an excerpt from the 1986 AP article referenced in the video, which I couldn’t fit into the video but thought was interesting and worth posting nonetheless: “He felt people staring at his finger, and he wore bandages on it long after it healed. He couldn't bring himself to show his girlfriend. When he finally did, and she said, ‘It looks great,’ he was sure she was protecting his feelings. One morning he was in the bathroom and knocked a pair of scissors off the counter. Without thinking he grabbed for them, and when he looked down they were dangling from the tip of his shortened finger. ‘Dang, I used it,’ he remembers thinking. ‘It doesn't sound like much, but that was a helluva hurdle.’”
*I made this video back when my username was not Velodus, hence the "video by" at the end being different. Carry on.

This is 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: a series in which I, Velodus, dig deep on sports figures in history who were either obscure or whose stories were not getting nearly enough attention at the time these videos were made. If you're a huge fan of sports history, or if you're just a fan of well-researched, tightly-edited video essays, you'll probably dig these episodes.
