A Royal Marine from 42 Commando has been killed in Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand Province.

He was providing support to an Afghan National Army patrol when the group were ambushed and came under small arms fire.

The Royal Marine sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

Despite the best efforts of the medics on the ground and extraction by helicopter, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Camp Bastion.

His family has been told.
