For this introduction to the MAX Frequency practice, Roya delivered a run of the Special Stages in Sonic the Hedgehog 02 (MD), using Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 02: Long Version (Version 0I Revision 0I0, or so~called “Version 02.00”) as a training ground for future runners; the game is being played via Regen (Version 00.972D, the Debugger Edition of the emulator) and the Motorola 68000 is Overclocked to about 094.30 Megahertz (6000 Cycles per Line), this allows for a virtually Bottleneck Free experience with the Special Stages and allows for runners to play them at their originally intended speed when the performance handicaps of the 68000 and 680I0 are completely thrown out the window.
This run is almost fully optimized: The best possible time that one might be able to get at 094.30 Megahertz is potentially an 08’52 and change, which will come down to getting the exact Ring Target of Special Stage 0I to 06’s Third Checkpoint and how fast and precise one can Start+A their way back to the Title Screen and Level Select; Time starts on the exact frame that the Level Select starts to brighten up (indicating the Special Stage Warp) and ends on the exact frame that the background of Special Stage 07 starts to change colour, these will be the same guidelines used in the event that a Tiebreaker must ever be done in a Sonic the Hedgehog 02 (MD) tournament under our recently released Fallout Formula and help properly determine who completed their run in the fastest Realtime measurement.
